A Transformative Journey: Keynote Reflections and the Power of Storytelling

I’m thrilled to share my experience with the inspiring new all-Ireland 6-month Leaders for Nature programme—a space that nurtures and empowers professionals in all sectors working tirelessly for a better world. What began as an invitation to deliver a keynote talk evolved into a deeply enriching journey, both for the incredible community involved and me.

Earlier this week, I received a heartfelt message from Maura Kiely, the visionary CEO of Leave No Trace Ireland and one of the programme’s co-founders. Her words captured the magic of that moment in Borris House:

“Cathy, when you stood up to deliver your keynote, something changed in the room. The energy shifted—shoulders dropped, eyes widened, and hearts opened. I truly believe you elevated the Leaders for Nature programme to another level, reconnecting us all to the essence of our work. I’m so excited to build our partnership and collaborate in the future. ♥️”Maura Kiely, CEO, Leave No Trace Ireland, 27 Feb 2026, launch of the inaugural Irish Leaders for Nature programme, Borris House, 25 Sept 2025.

I’ll admit, speaking to a room full of seasoned professionals felt daunting. But sharing the story of Hollywood Forest and Lil’ Drummin Bog—with all its joys, challenges, and moments of grief—sparked a powerful dialogue about the emotional landscape of working for nature. It was a reminder of how storytelling can bridge gaps, inspire action, and deepen our connection to the natural world.

This programme has been a gift, and I’m grateful to be part of a movement that strengthens and uplifts those dedicated to creating positive change.
