This is a thoughtful innovative experimental documentary work by Patrick Keiller and one which I was initially excited about as the film address ecological and related economic concerns but somehow the narration for such an extended piece made it slightly soporific (as also noted in the below review) – that was the case for the people who I noticed who nodded off at the cinema where I saw it screened – a few others left early.
I liked the extended takes but it somehow was a rather flat cinematic experience, perhaps I need to watch it again. Hearing stream of consciousness-like musings out of a diary can be a rather dry experience and then there was the voice of a known actor, Vanessa Redgrave, that I found distracting too.
